The 3 Secrets To Succeeding At Something Brand New

Starting a new career can be both exciting and intimidating. On one hand, it can be a chance to pursue a new passion or to build a more fulfilling and rewarding professional life.

On the other hand, it can also be scary to step out of your comfort zone and embark on a new path, especially if this new journey is so far off the path you were once walking.

One of the biggest fears that people often face when starting a new career is the fear of the unknown. It can be hard to know what to expect when entering a new field, and it’s natural to worry about whether you’ll be able to succeed or whether you’ll fit in.

And I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t mention the fear of failure. You may worry that you won’t be able to learn the necessary skills, or that you’ll make mistakes along the way.

Of course you’re going to feel like you don’t hold the qualifications, or have enough experience, or heck — even have the right attire — when it comes to succeeding in a new career (especially when you’re coming from a completely different background of expertise).

But the way I see it, you have two options…

Embrace FEAR — Fear Everything And Run

Embrace FEAR — Face Everything And Rise

Option 1 keeps you stuck… If you never do anything new, you will always be in the exact same place that you are.

Option 2 gives you endless opportunity!

No one knows everything when they start a new job, (spoiler alert: no one knows everything, even if they’ve been doing it for years), and it’s normal to have to learn as you go.

So how do you actually overcome your fears? Here are some simple and effective practices you can start today to push you forward:

1.Do your research and prepare as much as possible before you start your new career.
→ This might involve taking classes or getting additional training, networking with people in the field, or volunteering or interning to gain some practical experience.

2. Remind yourself of your motivations for pursuing a new career.
→ What inspired you to make this change in the first place?
→ What are your long-term goals and how will this new career help you achieve them?

Focusing on your reasons for making the change can help you stay motivated and keep your fears in perspective.

3. Surround yourself with friends and family and a network of people who breathe life into your new endeavors.
→ You will need support on the days that get tough — find people who will offer encouragement and advice as you navigate your new career.

It can be comforting to know that you’re not alone and that others have faced similar challenges and succeeded.

I’ll leave you with this…

Yes, it can be intimidating, and yes, it can be scary.

But what scares you more - Trying something new, or being in the exact same place you are now in a month, or 6 months, or this time next year?

If you want something different, you have to do something different.

You can do this, if you want to.

I know you can.
